Burkhardt named Freshman of the Year and Beale earns All-ICAA honors
Justine Burkhardt led Flagler with 31 kills, 28 digs and 32.5 points in a doubleheader win over Webber International (3-2) and Warner Southern (3-1) Friday at Flagler Gym.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Justine Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla./Winthrop U.) was named Freshman of the Year in the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association's post-season award release which came out on Tuesday (Dec. 12). She also was selected to the All-ICAA first-team and Flagler College teammate Katie Beale (Stuart, Fla./Martin County HS) earned third-team honors. The ICAA is composed of independent NCAA Division II schools: North Greenville University of Tigerville, S.C.; Palm Beach Atlantic University of West Palm Beach; Tiffin (Ohio) University; Brevard (N.C.) College; the University of the District of Columbia; Dixie State College of St. George, Utah; Flagler and Florida Gulf Coast University.

Burkhardt, a 6-0 freshman outside hitter, set a school single-season record for kills with 568 (4.12/game) and attempts (1,619). She also tallied 425 digs (3.08/game) and recorded a team-high 637.5 points. Burkhardt recorded a season-high 30 kills in a match against Evangel University on Sept. 2 in Daytona Beach.

Beale, 5-11 freshman outside hitter/middle blocker, racked up 322 kills (2.68/game), served up 44 aces and recorded 389 digs (3.24/game). She tied for the team lead in aces, was third in kills and fourth in digs.

Flagler College finished the season with an overall record of 26-15. Head Coach Taylor Mott looses one player to graduation.

Second-Team: Daniella Bezerra, District of Columbia; Cidney Judkins, Dixie State; Ali Mitchell, Palm Beach Atlantic; Ursula Vieira, Palm Beach Atlantic; Amber Metzgar, Tiffin; and, Brittany Holliday, Brevard.

Third-Team: Katie Beale, Flagler; Patricia Gomes, Florida Gulf Coast; Heather Van Olst, Florida Gulf Coast; Beth Willenbrink, Tiffin; Jamie Perry, Brevard; and, Whitney Hendry, Florida Gulf Coast.

Libero of the Year: Holly Morgan, Tiffin

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The Flagler College volleyball program rounded out this year’s recruiting class with five recruits, head coach Taylor Mott announced today. Members of the incoming class are: Dianna Craine (Oshawa, Ontario/University of Tulsa/Eastside Collegiate and Vocational Institute), Amanda Dougherty (Coplay, Pa./Parkland HS), Emilee Taylor (Temple Terrace, Fla./Armwood HS), Taylor Willis (Zephyrhills, Fla./Zephyrhills HS) and Melissa Woodall (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS).
