ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Flagler College sophomore outside hitter Justine Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla./Winthrop U.) was selected as the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association’s Volleyball Player of the Year and earned first-team honors in a release Wednesday afternoon. Burkhardt was the Freshman of the Year last year and also earned first-team honors.

Burkhardt won the Player of the Year honor by the slimmest of margins, one vote. She played in all 35 matches this season and recorded a team-high 401 kills (3.40 per game) with 396 digs (3.36/g) and hit .170 to lead the Saints to a 20-15 overall record, the program’s seventh consecutive year of 20 or more victories.

Earning second-team honors was freshman outside hitter Meg Weathersby (Maitland, Fla./Orangewood Christian School). In her first year as a Saint, Weathersby played in all 35 matches, was second on the team in kills with 319 and service aces with 31. She also recorded 227 digs.

Two more Saints earned third-team honors: sophomore outside hitter Katie Beale (Stuart, Fla./Martin County HS) and senior setter Audrey Holtz (Cooper City, Fla./Broward CC). Beale, who earned third-team all-ICAA honors a year ago, played in 31 matches and recorded 216 kills. She finished third on the team with 297 digs. Holtz played in 34 matches and tallied a team-high 722 assists. Her 34 service aces also led the team. Holtz recorded 266 digs as well.
