ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Wade Lamont's (Sarasota, Fla./Seminole CC) two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning plated Bryan Harrell (Granger, Ind./Lincoln Trail College) to give Flagler College a season opening 6-5 win over 14th-ranked (NAIA) Tennessee Wesleyan College Friday night at Flagler Stadium.

Prior to the game, former Flagler star baseball player Chris Barnwell had his uniform No. 5 retired in a ceremony.

In the bottom of the ninth, Tennessee Wesleyan reliever Bobby Katzman (0-1) retired the first two batters of the inning, but issued Harrell a free pass. Kenny Ray (St. Augustine ,Fla./Lake-Sumter CC) singled to move Harrell to second. Katzman was lifted for Miguel Maria who, on the second pitch, gave up Lamont's game winning hit.

Flagler struggled with Tennessee Wesleyan hurler Cole McCurry who tossed six innings and fanned 12. He allowed four runs but only one was earned.

Wes Burgess (St. Augustine, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) (1-0) came in relief of starter Brandon Rapoza (Jacksonville, Fla./Tallahassee CC) who went five innings and scattered seven hits and allowed four runs. Burgess allowed only one hit in his four innings of work, and that was a solo home run to Bulldog centerfielder Jered Stanley in seventh inning.

Brad Jackson (Havana, Fla./North Florida CC) went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the eighth inning to tie the game 5-5, and also had a leadoff double in the fourth inning. Ray collected a single and a double, scored a run and drove in another. Harrell scored three runs for the Saints.

Zac Bowman collected a pair of singles for the Bulldogs as did Clark Jackson.

The same two teams meet in a doubleheader at Flagler Stadium at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
