Saint Leo women down Flagler, 80-60

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler College women’s basketball team dropped its seventh game in a row this season in an 80-60 loss to Saint Leo University Saturday night at Flagler Gym. The Saints fall to 2-7 for the season; Saint Leo advances to a 7-1 mark.

Jalisa Foster (St. Petersburg, Fla./Pinellas Park HS) earned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Foster also had three assists and two steals for the night. Jen Mitchell (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake HS) led Flagler’s scoring offense with 14 points and notched three assists as well. Chanti Beckett (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield HS) followed with 11 points and was 4-of-7 from the field. Flagler outscored Saint Leo in the paint 34-28.

Dominique Daniels and Whitley Washington both scored 16 points for Saint Leo with12 of Washington’s points coming from 3-point range. Marquita Fenn added 13 points of her own and tied Sabrina Schmitt for the team-high of eight rebounds. The Lions outperformed Flagler off the bench 42-28.

The Saints fought for the early lead, holding a three-point advantage after a steal from Lauren Bailie (Loganville, Ga./Loganville HS) allowed Adrienne Donelson (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson HS) to score on a jumper. Saint Leo regained full control after a layup by Daniels put the score at 12-9. Flagler got within two in the second half, compliments of a Bailie trey, but Saint Leo would use an 18-4 run late in the second half to pull away. 

Flagler will start a five-game road trip on Monday (Dec. 15) at No. 23 Rollins College at 5:30 p.m.

AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Chanti Beckett (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield HS) scored a game-high 26 points to help lead Flagler College to a 63-60 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon Saturday night in the third game of the National Independent Women’s Basketball Tournament at Flagler Gym. Flagler finished the tournament with a record of 1-1 and completed its season with a 5-24 record. UPRB posted a 0-2 record in the tournament and fell to 15-10 overall.
