MIAMI SHORES, Fla. − An 11-2 run in the late stages of the first half broke open a tight game as No. 16 (WBCA/NCAA Division II) Barry University defeated Flagler College 68-51 in the first round of the Barry Holiday Classic Tuesday night at the Health and Sports Center. Barry improved to 9-2 while Flagler fell to 2-10.
Kristy Singletary scored a game-high 22 points and added six rebounds and six steals for the Bucs. Singletary made four of Barry's nine 3-pointers. Princess Bailey tallied seven points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Chanti Beckett (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield HS) led Flagler with 16 points and added nine rebounds.
Elizabeth Tuzzolo (Harvard, Mass./Drexel U.) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds while
Annie Maloney (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial HS) chipped in with 10 points.
Flagler shot 42.5% (17-40) from the field which was its second-highest field goal percentage for the season. The Saints made 52.9% (9-17) of their shots in the first half.
Flagler takes on Nova Southeastern University tomorrow (Dec. 31) at 2 p.m. to conclude the tournament.
