ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Flagler volleyball team continued its impressive run over the weekend capturing the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship. The Saints defeated Lees-McRae University, Armstrong Atlantic State University and Wingate University.
Against LMU, the Saints trailed after two sets and needed to win three-straight to advance. Led by
Katie Beale's 27 kills and 14 digs, the Saints shocked the Bobcats to advance to the semifinals.
Meg Weathersby filled the stat sheet with 18 kills, 10 digs and eight total blocks.
On Saturday, Flagler was able to beat AASU for the fourth time this season as
Justine Burkhardt led the Saints to victory. Winning in four sets, Burkhardt recorded her 15th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 17 digs.
Weathersby also recorded a double-double totaling a match-high 18 kills and 12 digs.
Olivia Snipes tallied 27 assists while
Rebecca Royal added 23.
Flagler wrapped up the Southeast Regional on Sunday against Wingate. Earlier this season, Wingate defeated the Saints in five sets.
Led by Weathersby, the Saints got revenge.
After the first two sets were split by both teams, Flagler took command in the third and fourth sets to win the regional.
Weathersby recorded 18 kills and hit .273 while adding nine kills. Burkhardt recorded another double-double tallying 14 kills and posting a career-high 26 digs.
Beale was a key component for the Saints too. Beale had 10 kills and 22 digs.
Weathersby, Burkhardt and Beale were all chosen to All-Southeast Region Tournament Team.
Flagler gets a week off before traveling to St. Paul, Minn., on December 3 to take on East Region champion Dowling College.
