Flagler men ranked No. 34 by ITA; Cotrone is No. 6 in singles

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler College men's tennis team is ranked No. 34 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Top 50 Poll and junior David Cotrone (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Christian School) is ranked No. 6 in Division II singles. The Flagler men were also ranked No. 11 in the Southeast Region and Cotrone is ranked second in singles in the region.

Two-time defending Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic State University is ranked No. 1 in both the national poll and the Southeast Region poll.

The Saints are coming off a 10-8 campaign and split two matches in the Division II South Regional at Barry. Flagler returns four players from last year with experience. Cotrone posted a 10-7 record last year at No. 1 singles and went 7-2 in his last ten matches. This past fall he finished second at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional in Sumter, S.C. Sophomore Gino Ramirez (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Dr. Michael Krop HS) returns as the team's No. 2 player.

Head Coach Walter Shinn's charges open the 2010 season Feb. 5 against Palm Beach Atlantic University in a match played in Orlando. The home opener will be Feb. 7 against Saint Leo University at 2 p.m. The Peach Belt Conference opener will be Feb. 20 at home against USC Aiken at 11 a.m.
