Flagler women ranked No. 46 by ITA

Senior Chelsi de Cuba will lead the 46th-ranked Flagler Saints into its first season in the Peach Belt Conference and the Southeast Region.
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler College women’s tennis team is ranked No. 46 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Top 50 Poll. The Flagler women were also ranked No. 10 in the Southeast Region.

Two-time defending Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic State University is ranked No. 1 in both the national poll and the Southeast Region poll.

The Saints are coming off a 12-6 campaign and split two matches at the South Regional at Lynn. Flagler returns six players with experience, including No. 1 singles player Chelsi de Cuba (Fort Pierce, Fla./Vero Beach HS). The No. 2 singles player, Veronica Figueroa (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) posted a 12-6 record at that position which was the most wins of any singles players for Flagler and head coach Walter Shinn.

Flagler opens the 2010 season Feb. 5 against Palm Beach Atlantic University in a match played in Orlando. The home opener will be Feb. 7 against Saint Leo University at 2 p.m. The Peach Belt Conference opener will be Feb. 20 at home against USC Aiken at 11 a.m.

ST. AUGUSTINE – The No. 13 (Campbell’s/ITA Division II Preseason Top 25) Flagler College women’s tennis program and 33rd-year head coach Walter Shinn announced the 2012 schedule today. Flagler will play 18 matches, eight of which will be played at the Flagler Tennis Center.

SUMTER, S.C. – The Flagler College women’s tennis team played in the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships last weekend at the Palmetto Tennis Center. The tournament was interrupted by rain and many of the final matches were conducted on home courts.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College’s Rachel Gould and Gabby Scammacca both earned Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Women’s Tennis Team honors, as released this afternoon by conference officials. Both were named honorable mention.
