Chipper Hughes signs with Flagler golf

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Chipper Hughes (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend Flagler College and play golf as announced by Santiago Cavanagh, Flagler’s Director of Golf Wednesday afternoon.
Hughes is a four-year letter winner in golf for Coach Pete Molinaro. He was the 2008 Class 1A regional medalist (72) and was named to the 2008 All-First Coast Boy’s Golf Team by the Florida Times-Union. Hughes was a member of the Allen D. Nease High School boy’s golf team which captured the 2007 FHSAA Class 2A State Championship. He was the individual medalist at the 2009 Deutsche Bank Junior Challenge Cup Invitational at The Boston Golf Club in Hingham, Mass., with a two-day score of 138.
Hughes is a veteran of over 60 National Junior Championships contested on the AJGA, FCWT and IJGT junior tours the past three years playing in 23 States and two countries. He brings a wealth of tournament experience to an already solid men’s golf program at Flagler.
The Flagler men’s golf team is currently ranked 36th in final Golf World/Nike Division II Coaches’ Poll of the fall season. The Saints open the spring portion of its schedule on Feb. 1 at the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate played at Pensacola, Fla.
