Women's basketball weekly preview

Flagler will close its season with games against Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke.
The Flagler women’s basketball team split two games last week against Augusta State University and seventh-ranked (USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25) Lander University. 

The Saints defeated the Jaguars 69-57 but fell to the Bearcats 104-77. With two games to play, Flagler’s record stands at 8-17 with a 3-13 conference record. 

Four different players were able to score in double-figures for the Saints against ASU. Jalisa Foster led the way with 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting including 5-for-7 at the free throw line. 

Arianna Roper and Jen Mitchell came off the bench to each score 11 points. Adrienne Donelson added 10 point and two blocks. 

Flagler hit the road on Feb. 20 against Lander. Leading 48-40 entering the second half, the Bearcats used a 27-5 run to pull away from the Saints. 

Brittni Johnson scored a team-high 19 points to go along with six assists and four steals to lead Lander. Five other Bearcat players scored in double-figures as well. 

Charlsea Owenscored a season-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting to lead the Saints. Foster added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. 

Flagler has two games remaining before its season comes to an end. On Feb. 24, the Saints will play 19th-ranked Francis Marion (USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25) at Flagler Gym at 5:30 p.m. 

The Saints' first meeting with the Patriots resulted in a 97-63 loss. Shannon Singleton-Bates scored a career-high 28 points for FMU who outscored Flagler 60-26 in the paint. Singleton-Bates is the fifth-leading scorer in the conference averaging 15.8 points per game. 

Chanti Beckett added a team-high 11 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the free throw line. Foster added 10 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. 

They will conclude with a road trip to UNC Pembroke on Feb. 27 at 1:30 p.m. Flagler defeated UNCP 71-68 on Feb. 6. 

Jen Mitchell scored a team-high 19 points, including 15 in the second half, to lead the Saints. Jen Knurek came off the bench to score 10 points and grab four rebounds. 

Braves' forward Briana Stanton tallied a game-high 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting. UNCP is led by JaToya Kemp. Kemp is the third-leading scorer (17.3) and sixth-leading rebounder (8.1) in the conference.
