ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Zach Bove (Winter Haven, Fla./Central Florida CC) led a 14-hit attack with three singles and a run batted in to lead Flagler College to a 9-5 win over Augusta State University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Flagler Stadium.

Flagler swept its inaugural series and raised its record to 8-6 overall and 3-0 in the Peach Belt. Augusta State fell to 6-10 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Jose Rohena (Tampa, Fla./St. Petersburg College) hit a solo home run, his second of the year, to lead off the third inning to tie the game at 3-all.

In the fourth, Charlie Stewart (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy) hit a one-out single and took second base when the Augusta State second baseman had tagged Stewart out in an attempt to steal the base, but then dropped the ball. That miscue would be costly as the next batter, Nate Fudala (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin HS) hit a double to left to score Stewart and give Flagler a 4-3 lead. Jarrod Simmons (Jacksonville, Fla./Central Florida CC) singled to right to score Fudala.

The Saints plated three more runs in the sixth and one in the eighth to preserve the win.

Johnny Gaines (Jacksonville, Fla./Hillsborough CC) (2-2) tossed seven complete innings and allowed five hits and four runs and struck out eight. Tyler McKendree (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) pitched two scoreless and hitless innings of relief and fanned two to earn his fourth save of the season.

Cale Owen (Clearwater, Fla./home school) singled twice and scored two runs and drove in another while Payne Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) singled, doubled, scored a run and collected an RBI. Stewart singled, doubled and scored a run while Simmons singled twice, scored a run and drove in two more.

Alex Walker led the Jaguars with a single, a double, one run scored and three driven in.

Jacob Watson (1-1) went seven and two-thirds innings, surrendered 14 hits and allowed eight earned runs.
