AMERICUS, Ga. – The 46th-ranked (ITA Division II) Flagler College women’s tennis team rolled to an 8-1 win over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.
Flagler improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Peach Belt while Georgia Southwestern fell to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Flagler swept doubles play to start the afternoon.
Chelsi de Cuba (Fort Pierce, Fla./Vero Beach HS) and
Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast U.) won handily over Leady Cuellar and Lauren Grogan at No. 1, 8-2.
Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) and
Veronica Figueroa (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) defeated Monica Osam and Melinda Vansant 8-3 at No. 2 doubles while
Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario/Vaughan Road academy) and
Chelsea Taylor (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Prep) blanked Mollie McGowan and Leigh Adams, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.
Flagler won in straight sets in singles play in all but one flight.
Flagler takes on No. 8 Columbus State tomorrow (Feb. 28) at 10 a.m.
