ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The 46th-ranked Flagler College women’s tennis opened the 2010 campaign with a convincing 7-2 win over 28th-ranked Saint Leo University in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.

Saint Leo fell to 1-2 on the season.

Flagler earned the first two of three possible points in doubles play. Chelsea Taylor (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Prep Academy) and Roxane Alt (Montreaux, Switzerland/Lewis & Clark CC) blanked Saint Leo’s Gina Schifano and Christine Clyne 8-0 at No. 2 doubles and the Flagler won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles.

Chelsi de Cuba (Fort Pierce, Fla./Vero Beach HS), Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast U.) and Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) all won in straight sets in singles play.

Flagler is idle until Feb. 17 when it hosts Brandeis University at 2:30 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.

WILSON, N.C. − The 21st-ranked (Golf World/NIKE Division II Coaches Poll) Flagler College men’s golf team won the Holiday Inn & Express Suites Barton College Intercollegiate by three strokes over the host school, No. 10 Barton College, which concluded Tuesday at the Wilson Country Club (par 72; 6851 yards). Patrick Lamb (Lake Wales, Fla./Western Carolina U.) earned medalist honors after besting Darren Smith of Barton on the second playoff hole when he drained a 12-foot birdie putt. Lamb and Smith shot a 4-under par 140.

ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 23 (ITA Division II) Flagler College rolled to an 8-1 win over No. 33 Grand Valley State University in a non-conference women’s tennis match Tuesday afternoon at Sanlando Park.

LONGWOOD, Fla. − The Flagler College women’s golf team finished in 11th place in a highly competitive field at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational which wrapped up Tuesday afternoon at the Alaqua Country Club (par 72; 5,934 yards). The Saints finished strong with a 337 which shaved five strokes off their second round total and finished with 1,019 strokes. Top-ranked (NCAA Division II Coaches Poll) Nova Southeastern University took home team honors with a 900 and was 12 strokes better than Daytona State College, the top-ranked team in the NJCAA.
