VALDOSTA, Ga. − A bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning by Jordan Yost won the game 6-5 for 16th-ranked (Collegiate Baseball Top 30 Poll) Valdosta State University against Flagler College in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Billy Grant Field.

Valdosta State extended its winning streak to three in a row and improved to 13-4 while Flagler had its three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 8-7.

Austin Smith led off the ninth for the Blazers by drawing a walk off Flagler reliever Josh Kempa (Baltimore, Md./Dundalik CC). Tim Lappin (Jacksonville, Fla./Paxon HS) came in to relieve Kempa, and issued a walk to Clayton Cain and Brandon Decker followed with an infield single to load the bases. Yost then hit a 1-0 pitch through the hole between shortstop and third base to win the game.

Flagler trailed 4-0 early, but tied the game in the fourth with the help of two errors by Valdosta State, a two-run single by Jarrod Simmons (Jacksonville, Fla./Central Florida CC) and an RBI single by Cale Owen (Clearwater, Fla./home school).

The Blazers re-took the lead, 5-4, in the home half of the fourth on an RBI single by Smith.

Charlie Stewart (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy) singled home a run in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game, 5-5.
