ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 23 (ITA Division II) Flagler College had little trouble defeating No. 37 University of Tampa, 8-1, in a non-conference women’s tennis match Thursday afternoon at Sanlando Park.
Flagler improved to 6-2 overall while Tampa suffered its third consecutive loss and fell to 2-7.
The Saints swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead early in the match.
Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast U.) and
Chelsea Taylor (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Prep) shutout Kourtney Stark and Megan Mancini 8-0 at No. 1 while
Veronica Figueroa (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) and
Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) rolled to an 8-1 win over Nikol Williams and Molly Welsh at No. 2.
Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario/Vaughan Road Academy) and
Deon Miller (Miami, Fla./Dr. Michael Krop) made it a clean sweep with an 8-3 triumph over Ally Wooten and Briana Ryan at No. 3.
Flagler won singles flights 2-6 in straight sets.
Flagler returns to Peach Belt Conference play on Sunday (Mar. 7) against No. 31 Georgia College & State University at 12:30 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
