ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – No. 23 (ITA Division II) Flagler College defeated No. 31 Georgia College & State University in a Peach Belt Conference women’s tennis match Sunday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.
Flagler won its second match in a row and improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the Peach Belt while GCSU fell to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Flagler got off to a great start by sweeping all three doubles flights.
Chelsi de Cuba (Fort Pierce, Fla./Vero Beach HS) and
Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast U.) defeated Diane Danna and Bertille Lion 8-4.
Veronica Figueroa (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) and
Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) rolled at No. 2 doubles with an 8-2 win over Kayla Barksdale and Michelle Lingner.
Chelsea Taylor (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Prep) and
Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario/Vaughan Road Academy) posted an 8-5 win over Adriana Acuna and Linda Mosa at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Flagler’s 4-6 flights all won in straight sets. Saviano defated Lingner 6-3 and 6-0 at No. 4 singles and raised her record to 7-2 this season.
Deon Miller (Miami, Fla./Dr. Michael Krop HS) rolled past Mosa 6-2 and 6-1 to improved to 7-2 this year and Taylor raised her singles record to 7-1 with a 6-1 and 6-0 win over Acuna.
Flagler hosts No. 33 Grand Valley State University on Tuesday (Mar. 9) at 4 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
