Saints slay Dragons, 16-3

Will Percy hit a pair of two-run doubles to help power Flagler to a 16-3 win over Tiffin Tuesday night.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Will Percy (Colorado Springs, Fla./St. Mary’s HS) led a 15-hit attack with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and collected four runs batted in to lead Flagler College to a 16-3 rout of Tiffin University in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Flagler Stadium.

Flagler won its fourth game in a row and improved to 12-7 on the season. Tiffin lost its ninth in a row and fell to 3-12.

The Saints scored all the runs they would need in the third inning. Percy hit a two-run double and Zach Bove (Winter Haven, Fla./Central Florida CC) plated him with a single and another run scored on a wild pitch.

Flagler added five more in the fourth with Percy again hitting a two-run double, his second in as many at bats.

The Saints scored one in the fifth, that coming on Dagmar Pena’s (Jacksonville, Fla./U. of Tampa) lead off home run, and then erupted for four more in the sixth. Payne Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) belted a two-run homer in the sixth.

Flagler added two unearned runs in the seventh.

John Sgromolo (Fleming Island, Fla./Clay HS) singled, doubled and scored a run while Ollie Bertrand (Sainte-Adèle, Quebec/Monroe CC) singled twice, scored three runs and drove in another.

Johnny Gaines (Jacksonville, Fla./Hillsborough CC) (3-2) tossed five shutout innings of one-hit ball and fanned two.

Mike Herdman tripled for the Dragons. Nathan Mace and Trevor Woodjetts added pinch hit RBI singles and Cory Hornyak also had an RBI single.

Pat Curtin (0-1) went three and one-third innings, allowed five hits and eight runs to pick up the loss.

Flagler returns to Peach Belt Conference action this Saturday (Mar. 13) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against UNC Pembroke.
