ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 16 (ITA/NCAA Division II) Flagler College breezed to a 9-0 win over Grand Valley State University in a non-conference men’s tennis match Tuesday afternoon at Sanlando Park.

Flagler snapped a four-match losing streak to improve to 8-4 while Grand Valley State fell to 5-4.

The Saints started the day with a doubles sweep to take a 3-0 lead. David Cotrone (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Christian) and Gino Ramirez (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Dr. Michael Krop HS) edged Marc Roesslin and Pat Snyder 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Harry Snoxell (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Prep) and Tim Hansson (Norrkoping, Sweden/Mercyhurst College) defeated Philipp Claus and Brock Plangger 8-4 at No. 2 doubles while Peter Coulis (Bradenton, Fla./Edison Academic Center) and Skyler Engel (New albany, Ohio/Univ. of Toledo) downed Ryan Diebold and Jeff Globerson, 8-5.

Flagler dominated singles play, led by the sixth-ranked Cotrone who ran his singles record to 12-0 with a 6-1 and 6-2 conquest over Roesslein. Ramirez snapped a four-match losing streak with a 6-1 and 6-0 win over Planger at No. 3 singles. Hansson also ended a four-match losing skid with a 6-2 and 6-4 win over Josh Kazdan. Mason Addison (Longwood, Fla./Circle Christian School) was the third Flagler player to end a four-match losing streak, and ended it with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 win.

Flagler hosts No. 8 (ITA Division III) Johns Hopkins University on Mar. 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.

The newcomers are: Sarah Albino (Adelaide, Australia/Florida State College of Jacksonville), Breanna “Breezy” Collings (Orange City, Fla./Brevard CC), Robyn Draper (Brampton, Ontario/State College of Florida), Donna Munafo (Satellite Beach, Fla./Brevard CC) and Alona Personius (Lake Stevens, Wash./Florida State College-Jacksonville).

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The Flagler College athletic department has announced the hiring of five new staff members for the 2010-11 season. Nicole Boone will be an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team, Andrew Garcia will be an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team, Jonathan Holt will be an assistant coach for the baseball team, Meghan Lammerding will be the head coach of the cheerleaders and Steven Samples comes in as an assistant athletic trainer.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. − Flagler College rising senior Chris Bray (Hilliard, Fla./Hilliard HS) and rising junior Joel Dahlenburg (St. Augustine, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) finished in the top 20 of the Jacksonville Area Golf Association’s City amateur which concluded Sunday at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.
