No. 22 Flagler draws No. 13 Francis Marion, again

Flagler will take on Peach Belt-rival Francis Marion on May 7 at Southeast Regional.
INDIANAPOLIS – No. 22 (ITA Division II) Flagler College will take on No. 13 Francis Marion University in the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Southeast Regional #1 May 7 at 2 p.m. at Bacon Park in Savannah, Ga. The two teams have already met twice this year with Francis Marion winning both times, 7-2 at Francis Marion (Mar. 27) and 5-3 at the Peach Belt Conference Championships (Apr. 16) in Jonesboro, Ga.

Flagler (14-7) is ranked fifth in the Southeast Region and has won four-of-its-last six matches. Francis Marion (16-5) is ranked fourth in the region and is 8-2 in its last 10 matches.

The regional gets underway when Erskine College (17-7) takes on Queens University of Charlotte (19-1) on May 6. The winner advances to take on top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University (27-0) on May 7. The regional championship will be played May 8 at 2 p.m.

The winners of the 16 preliminary round tournaments will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships May 12-15 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

ST. AUGUSTINE – The No. 13 (Campbell’s/ITA Division II Preseason Top 25) Flagler College women’s tennis program and 33rd-year head coach Walter Shinn announced the 2012 schedule today. Flagler will play 18 matches, eight of which will be played at the Flagler Tennis Center.

SUMTER, S.C. – The Flagler College women’s tennis team played in the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships last weekend at the Palmetto Tennis Center. The tournament was interrupted by rain and many of the final matches were conducted on home courts.
