ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Flagler College junior men’s tennis player
David Cotrone (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Christian) has been selected to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III At-Large first-team, released Thursday morning.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, played in at least 50% of the team’s contests, and has completed at last one full calendar year at the institution or has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Sports eligible in the at-large program are: women’s bowling, women’s crew, men’s and women’s fencing, women’s field hockey, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s rifle, men’s and women’s skiing, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s volleyball, men’s and women’s water polo and men’s wrestling.
Cotrone finished the season with a 17-4 record at No. 1 singles. He is ranked No. 10 in the latest ITA Division II national rankings. Cotrone is 15-7 in doubles, with Gino Ramirez, and the tandem is ranked No. 9 nationally. He has also earned Peach Belt Conference All-Academic First-Team honors as well as first-team All-Peach Belt in singles and doubles. Cotrone has a 3.52 GPA and is a Business and Religion major at Flagler.
He is now eligible for Academic All-America honors which will be released on June 8.
