SALISBURY, N.C. −
Kaitlyn Edwards (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) remains in a two-way tie for 38th place after the first two rounds at the 54-hole NCAA Division II South Regional Championships Monday at the Country Club of Salisbury (par 71; 6,094 yards). The final round will be played tomorrow starting at 8:15 a.m.
Edwards shaved off four strokes from her first round total with a 9-over 80, but needs to make up six strokes tomorrow to advance to the national championships. Her two day score is 22-over 164. To qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships May 12-15 in Mesa, Ariz., she needs to finish at least third-out-of-the-four individual players.
Edwards started on the back nine today and bogeyed the first two-out-of-three holes. She bounced back and went par-birdie-par on the next three holes before bogeying the final three holes. On the front nine, Edwards bogeyed five-of-the-nine holes.
The top individual player is Emily Gibson of the University of Montevallo. She is 5-over par with a 147 and is four shot off the overall lead. Ashley Denton of Wingate University is in second place among the individuals with an 11-over 153. Kelsey Babos of Catawba College is third with a 16-over 158.
Nova Southeastern University (606) holds a one stroke lead over Florida Southern College (607) for first place. Rollins College and Barry University are tied for third with a 614. The top three teams will advance to the national championships.
