ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Flagler College broke ground on the Flagler Field Locker Room Facility in a ceremony Friday (July 2) morning at the Flagler Field Complex. The estimated completion date of the project is this December.

“This is a great day for both Flagler College and the athletic department,” said Athletics Director Jud Damon. “Clearly, this could not have been done without the vision and commitment of President Dr. William T. Abare, Jr. Dave Barnett (the head baseball coach and former athletic director) also deserves a great deal of credit for the vast progress that has been made and continues to be made at the Flagler Field Complex.”

The facility will house four locker rooms (one for each of Flagler’s two soccer teams, one for baseball and the other for softball). Also included are a training room, two equipment rooms, a storage area, laundry facilities, and locker rooms for the coaches and referees. It will be located behind the grandstand area of the baseball and soccer fields. The facility will be split into two sections with a breezeway separating the two halves. The breezeway will serve as the main entry point to the baseball, softball and soccer complexes.

“The new facility is going to be a big asset in recruiting and gives all four teams a home we haven’t ever had,” said Teddy Meyer, head women’s soccer coach. “This locker room facility makes the Flagler Field Complex as good as any you would find in NCAA Division II and even in Division I.”

DiMare Construction Company of St. Augustine is the general contractors while Kenneth Smith Architects of Jacksonville provided the architectural designs of the building. Powell & Hinkle Engineering, P.A., of Orange Park are the mechanical and electrical engineers on the project. Atlantic Engineering Services of Jacksonville are the structural engineers. Hauber Fowler & Associates, LLC., of Longwood, is providing the landscape architecture and Means Engineering, Inc., of Orange Park are the civil engineers.
