Men's soccer adds 10 newcomers for 2010 season

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Flagler College men’s soccer head coach John Lynch announced his recruiting class this afternoon and will welcome 10 student-athletes to the team this fall. The newcomers are: Mitchell Hanley (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park HS), Forrest Harrington (Keller, Texas/Northwest HS), Kevin Keenan (Portlaoise, Ireland/CBS Portlaoise), Lincoln Lewis (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School), Brendan Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck HS), Liam O’Brien (Virginia Water, England/Reading Blue Coat School), Joseph O’Connell (St. Augustine, Fla./Christopher Newport U./Courtland HS), Craig Riley (Fort Worth, Texas/Keller HS), Zach Shanahan (Waterford, Ireland/Waterford Institute of Technology/CBS Tramore) and Josh Slatton (Gibsonton, Fla./East Bay HS).

Hanley is a 5-foot-8 forward who comes in having scored 42 goals and recorded 35 assists in three years at Winter Park High. He is a three-time all-metro selection and was a member on the Orange County All-Star Team.

Harrington is a 6-foot defender from Texas. He is a three-time first-team All-District 5 Class 5A as well as a three-time team most valuable player for the Texans.

Keenan comes to Flagler via Portlaoise, Ireland. A 6-foot defender, he helped guide Colaiste Ide Green to an undefeated record at the John Talley Showcase in Memphis, Tenn.

Lewis is a 6-foot-1 forward/midfielder from the Maclay School. In Tallahassee, Fla. Helped lead the Marauders to three Class 2A state tournaments, including a second place finish in 2009 and a semifinal appearance this past season. As a senior, he scored 30 goals and added 20 assists which earned him a spot on the Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s All-State Team. Lewis was also selected to the All-Big Bend first team as a senior. He scored 23 goals and added 16 assists as a junior.

Murphy is a 6-foot-1 midfielder/defender from New Jersey. He helped lead Colts Neck to the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

O’Brien is a 6-foot-1 defender from England. He captained the Ascot United FC U18 team.

O’Connell is a 6-foot-2 forward and a transfer from NCAA Division III-member Christopher Newport University where he played in 23 matches. He tallied three goals and added a pair of assists for the Captains. O’Connell scored a goal and added an assist vs. Bethany (Sept. 4, 2009).

Riley is a 5-foot-9 defender/midfielder from Texas. He was first-team all-district selection last year and has helped the team to three district titles.

Shanahan represented Tramore CBS on the Munster Provincial team. He also led team to a pair of Munster titles and one all-Ireland title.

Slatton, a 6-foot-1 defender, was a two-time all-conference selection at East Bay High.

This doesn't complete the overall 2010 recruiting class.

Flagler kicks off the season on Sept. 3 at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. Less-McRae were the national runners-up last year in Division II.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – For three-of-the-five Flagler College fall athletics teams, the season begins at the end of this week. The volleyball and men’s soccer team, both preseason favorites in the Peach Belt Conference, will open at tournaments held at Lees-McRae College while the women’s soccer team also hits the road to play at the Queens University of Charlotte Tournament.
