AUGUSTA, Ga. − Flagler College senior
Meg Weathersby (Maitland, Fla./Orangewood Christian School) and sophomore
Rachel Stacy (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek HS) were selected to the 2010 Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Team, released this afternoon by conference officials.
Weathersby, a 6-foot middle blocker/outside hitter, earned AVCA All-Southeast Region as well as Daktronics All-Southeast Region second-team honors last season after leading the Saints with a 3.37 kills per set average, which ranked third in the Peach Belt. She hit .246 for the season, served up 56 aces and averaged 2.31 digs per set and 0.59 total blocks per set. Weathersby was named to NCAA Division II All-Tournament, the All-Southeast Regional and the All-PBC Tournament Teams. She also earned first-team all-conference honors and was the league’s player of the week three times.
Stacy, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, stepped right in and hit a team-best .317, averaged 2.12 kills per set and led the team with 0.73 blocks per set. She was selected as the PBC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player after posting a .532 hitting percentage with 27 kills on just two errors.
Flagler is coming off a banner season where it went 36-9 overall and 13-1 in the Peach Belt. The Saints won the conference’s regular and post season titles in their first year as members. Flagler also went on to win the Southeast Regional and advance to the NCAA National Tournament where it became the first-ever Peach Belt Conference school to win a set or a match and advanced to the final four.
Flagler opens the 2010 season at the Carolinas Challenge at Banner Elk, N.C., Sept. 3-4. The Saints open at home on Sept. 17 in the conference opener against USC Aiken at 7 p.m.
