SUMTER, S.C. – The Flagler College women's tennis team concluded play in the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships Sunday at the Palmetto Tennis Center. The tournament was ended abruptly due to torrential rain in the immediate area.
In the singles “A” draw Round of 32, No. 14-seed
Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast University) out-lasted Eliza Adusumilli of Lander, 6-4, 1-6 and 6-4. Pfeiffer lost in the quarterfinals to the No. 3 seed, Katie White of Clayton State, 6-2 and 6-0.
In the singles “B” draw,
Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario/Vaughan Road Academy) rolled past Audrey Marlette of North Georgia, 6-2 and 6-1, to advance to the Round of 16 where she deafeated her teammate,
Deon Miller (Miami, Fla./Dr. Michael Krop HS), 6-4 and 7-5, to move into the quarterfinals. Gould fell to Marie Cerceletti of Clayton State, 6-1 and 6-4. Miller had defeated Ali Evers of Wingate, 6-4 and 7-5 to advance to play Gould.
Gabby Scammacca (Sugarloaf Key, Fla./Key West HS) beat Chelsi Haefele of Pfeiffer University, 6-4 and 6-4, but lost to Charlotte Fabricius of Clayton State, 6-4 and 6-3, in the Round of 16.
Chelsea Taylor (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Prep Academy) was defeated by Camila Correa of August State, 6-3 and 6-1, in the Round of 32.
In the doubles “B” draw, Miller and Taylor took home the title. They defeated Kerry Hall and Caitlin Siney of Francis Marion 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. The duo then beat Laura Chapman and Stasa Vujosevic of North Georgia 8-3 to advance to the semifinals. Miller and Taylor rolled to an 8-3 win over Sofia Medeiros and Pietra Viana of Mount Olive and took home the title with an 8-3 win over Camila Correa and Julie Fountaine of Augusta State.
