CHARLOTTE, N.C. − Loren Cate (Apopka, Fla./Apopka HS) scored the match's lone goal as Flagler College edged the Queens University of Charlotte 1-0 in the first round of the QUC Tournament at the Sports Complex. It was the season opener for both teams.

Cate tucked the ball inside the far right post in the 12th minute to put the Saints ahead. Cate and Lindsay Zullo (Hudson, Fla./Hudson HS) each booted eight shots.

Christie Reuther (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview HS) recorded the shutout with five saves.

Kristen Wright took seven shots for the Royals with three coming on goal. Michelle Landry tallied three saves.

Flagler out-shot Queens 23-11 and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Queens was whistled for 23 fouls and Flagler 11.

Flagler will have a day to rest and then take on Pfeiffer University on Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Sports Complex in Charlotte.
