Taylor Strekel (Stroudsburg, Pa., Stroudsburg HS) of the women's cross country team was selected as the TraveLynx Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 23. This is her second time she has been selected as the student-athlete of the week this season (Sept. 18).
Strekel had a superb showing in her first Peach Belt Conference Championship last Saturday. She finished the 6K course in 23:48.71, a season-best time for her in that distance, and she finished second in the 67-woman field and helped Flagler to a sixth place finish. Strekel was named the PBC's Freshman of the Year as she posted the best time of the freshman class. She knocked almost seven seconds off her previous 6K-best.
Strekel also earned first-team all-Peach Belt Conference honors after finishing in the top seven. She is the first all-Peach Belt honoree since the school joined the conference in 2009.
