Johan Bergfeld earns Academic All-America honors

ST. AUGUSTINE − Johan Bergfeld (Akers Styckebruk, Sweden, Rekarnegymnasiet) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Men's Soccer First Team, announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Capital One Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-II Academic All-America teams program.

A business major with a 3.96 grade point average, Bergfeld led Flagler to a 17-3-3 record, the Peach Belt Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division II quarter-finals. A native of Akers Styckebruk, Sweden, Bergfeld has been named all-conference and academic all-conference three times. The 2011 Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, he has also earned third team Daktronics All-America and first team Daktronics All-Southeast Region honors. A second team NSCAA All-American as a junior, he scored six goals and five assists this year.

Bergfeld is the first Flagler College student-athlete to earn Capital One first team Academic All-America honors.
