KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Flagler College head men's soccer coach
John Lynch was selected as the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Mondo Southeast Region Coach of the Year, released this afternoon.
Lynch, and 23 other regional coaches of the year, will be joined by those coaches whose teams advanced to the NCAA semifinals on the ballot for NSCAA/Mondo National Coach of the Year in their respective divisions.
Recipients of the national award will be announced at the annual Awards Banquet, to be held on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at the Kansas City Convention Center in conjunction with the 2012 NSCAA Convention.
Lynch also earned the award in 2009 in Flagler's inaugural season in the Peach Belt Conference where the Saints won the regular season title and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Flagler had a banner season posting a 17-3-3 overall record and a 6-1-1 record in conference play. The Saints won both the regular and post-season title and advanced to the elite eight. Flagler posted its first-ever wins in the NCAA National Tournament this season.
Since joining the Peach Belt in 2009, Flagler has posted a 19-4-1 record in league play and an overall mark of 45-14-6. The Saints have advanced on into NCAA postseason tournament play in each of its three seasons.
In 13 years at the helm of the Flagler program, Lynch has posted a 135-101-18 record. He has also been selected as the Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2011.
The Saints boasted the top scoring offense in the country with 59 goals scored and were ranked No. 5 in the final NSCAA Division II poll, the program's highest ranking since joining Division II.
