SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Flagler College men's tennis team concluded the regular season ranked No. 12 in the final Campbell's/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Team Rankings which were released today. Flagler had been ranked No. 12 since early March.
David Cotrone (Bradenton, Fla., Bradenton Christian) and
Gino Ramirez (Pembroke Pines, Fla., Dr. Michael Krop HS) earned ITA All-America honors for the second consecutive year.
Flagler finished with an overall record of 12-8 and posted a 7-2 mark in the Peach Belt Conference. Flagler ended the season in the final match of the Savannah Regional, losing to the host school, Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Flagler was one of eight conference schools ranked in the top 50. Armstrong finished No. 3 while Columbus State University ranked No. 9. No. 11 Lander finished one spot ahead of Flagler while Augusta State University and Francis Marion University finished Nos. 16 and 17, respectively. Georgia College came in at No. 19 and USC Aiken rounded out the Peach Belt teams at No. 32. Valdosta State University tops the polls after winning the national title last month.
The Saints finished fourth in the Southeast Region. Cotrone ranked No. 5 in singles play while he and Ramirez ranked No. 3 in doubles.
Cotrone earned both singles and doubles All-America honors for the second year in a row. He finished No. 12 in the final singles rankings. Cotrone posted a 13-6 record at No. 1 singles for Head Coach Walter Shinn. He went 9-4 against nationally ranked opponents. Cotrone peaked at No. 3, in the singles rankings, in early April. He repeats as a doubles All-American with
Gino Ramirez. The duo finished ranked No. 7 after being ranked as high as No. 5 in April. They went 13-7, all at No. 1 doubles, and were 5-3 against nationally ranked tandems.
