Flagler’s Cotrone earns Academic All-Peach Belt honors

AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the second consecutive year, Flagler College's David Cotrone (Bradenton, Fla., Bradenton Christian) earned Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Men's Tennis Team honors, as released this afternoon by conference officials.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.

Cotrone, a senior business and religion major, holds a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. He was selected to the all-conference singles and doubles teams for the second year in a row. Cotrone went 13-6 in singles play; all at No. 1, and posted a 6-3 record in conference matches. He went 9-4 against nationally ranked opponents and 10-4 against regionally ranked opponents. Cotrone went 13-7 in doubles play, teaming with Gino Ramirez at No. 1. The duo went 7-2 in conference play and was 5-3 against nationally ranked tandems and 6-3 against those who were regionally ranked. In national rankings, Cotrone was ranked as high as No. 3 in singles play and No. 5 in doubles.

Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 26 NCAA Division II National Championships. 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in 13 championship sports. 2009-10 members are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
