Gould and Scammacca earn Academic All-Peach Belt honors

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College's Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario, Vaughan Road Academy) and Gabby Scammacca (Sugarloaf Key, Fla. , Key West HS) both earned Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Women's Tennis Team honors, as released this afternoon by conference officials. Both were named honorable mention.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.

Gould, a sophomore sport management major, holds a 3.42 cumulative grade point average. She posted an 11-6 record in singles play, including a 9-3 mark against conference opposition. Gould went 6-4 playing at No. 5 singles and 5-2 at No. 6 singles. She also posted an overall 7-12 record in doubles play. Gould teamed with four different players through the season, but went 3-8 at No. 1 doubles with Lauren Pfeiffer.

Scammacca, a sophomore sport management major, holds a 3.40 GPA. She finished the season with a 4-7 record in singles play and held the same record in doubles. Scammacca played all 11 singles matches at No. 6 and all 11 doubles matches at No. 3 with Deon Miller.

Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 26 NCAA Division II National Championships. 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in 13 championship sports. 2009-10 members are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
