The women's tennis team competed at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional last weekend.

SUMTER, S.C. – The Flagler College women's tennis team played in the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships last weekend at the Palmetto Tennis Center. The tournament was interrupted by rain and many of the final matches were conducted on home courts.

In the singles “A” draw, Rachel Gould, Veronica Figueroa and Barbora Sebkova all won first round matches, but Gould and Figueroa were knocked out in the second round by players from Armstrong Atlantic State University. Gould defeated Lisa Seyton of Georgia College 6-4 and 6-0, but lost to No. 5-seed Kathleen Perry 6-1 and 6-1.

Figueroa, seeded No. 14, edged Abby O'Reillly of Erskine College 7-6 and 7-6 and then lost to Olga Kalodzitsa of Armstrong 6-3 and 6-3.

Sebkova rolled past Amanda Poole of Queens University of Charlotte 6-1 and 6-1, but lost to No. 15 Marina Ferreira of Augusta State University 6-2 and 6-3.

Jennifer Saviano lost her first round match to Marie Cercelletti of Clayton State University 6-4 and 6-4.   

In the singles “B” draw, Laura Ospina posted a win in the first round, 6-1 and 6-1, over Nela Handac of North Goergia. She went on to lose to Lina Parra of Young Harris College 6-4 and 6-0 in the second round.

Krista Ingrilli defeated Amy McGucken of the University of Montevallo 6-0 and 6-0 in the first round, but was eliminated by Kerry Hall of Francis Marion University 4-6, 7-6 and 6-2. 

In doubles “A” play, the tandem of Figueroa and Saviano won their opening match 8-4 over Christina Rustcheff and Erin Williams from Queens University of Charlotte. They were eliminated by the No. 5-seeded duo of Kathleen Henry and Clara Perez of Armstrong 8-4.   

In the “B” doubles, Ingrilli and Ospina fell to Stormy Dvorak and Lina Parra of Young Harris 8-6.
