MELBROURNE – No. 18 (Campbell's/ITA Division II Top 25) Florida Tech bested No. 13 Flagler 7-2 in a non-conference women's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Fee Avenue Courts.

Florida Tech improved to 1-1 on the season while Flagler dropped its season opener.

The Panthers opened by winning two of the three doubles matches. The No. 7 ranked tandem of Kristina and Katarina Huba blanked Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario, Vaughan Road Academy) and Barbora Sebkova (Prague, Czech Republic, Gymnázium a Sportovní gymnázium Prípotocní) at No. 1 doubles. Monica Price and Katie Close teamed to beat Esther Santiago and Krista Ingrilli (Ocala, Fla., Trinity Catholic HS) 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. The Saints earned their point at No. 2 doubles where Veronica Figueroa (Orlando, Fla., Cypress Creek HS) and Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas HS) downed Abigail Greif and Abbey Keister, 9-7.

In singles play, Florida Tech took all but one singles matches in straight sets. Santiago recorded Flagler other point with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-1 win over Stephanie Dohner at No. 5 singles.

Flagler will continue on the road Feb. 11 at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
