Andrew Merritt were selected to the Peach Belt Conference's Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team which was released Wednesday afternoon by conference officials.
Flagler and Columbus State University tied for the most athletes on the team with three. A total of 18 runners earned academic honors.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and either be a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Smith has a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in sociology at Flagler. He has participated in all four races this season and has posted a career-best 8K time of 25:53.60 at the Disney Classic (Oct. 10). Smith is a two-time PBC President's Honor Roll scholar.
Mack is a criminology major at Flagler and has a 3.56 GPA. He has ran in all four meets Flagler has competed in and turned in a season-best 8K time of 27:34.80 at the Disney Classic. Mack was a PBC President's Honor Roll Silver Scholar last year.
Merritt is a business administration major at Flagler and holds a 3.66 GPA. He has participated in all four meets this season and posted a career-best 8K time of 29:01.70 at the Disney Classic. Merritt was a PBC President's Honor Roll Silver Scholar as a freshman.
The Flagler men's cross country team will participate in the Peach Belt Conference Championship on Saturday (Oct. 24) at Gainesville, Georgia.
